Little Emerson Rose DeHass is one week and one day old today! That’s her lying on my nephew Brian’s chest. She’s incredibly cute! Yes, I know–that’s how all family members feel about their new arrivals, but she really is adorable! Emme weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. and was 19″ long when she was born.
She had all the necessary parts and then some. You can see she has a full head of hair (which explains my niece Cari’s heartburn for the last few months,) and when she popped out of the birth canal, our little Emme had a conehead you wouldn’t believe! Her head is nice and round now, but during those first couple of days, she looked like she just stepped off the space ship from Remulac.
My niece, Cari, did an amazing job, and I’m so happy for her. This is their first child, and they’re both walking on air. They wanted the baby’s gender to be a surprise, so they didn’t know they’d have a baby girl until she was born. Cari and Brian have kept a baby blog online, and I thought you’d get a kick out of a couple of excerpts about Cari’s birth experience and the new parents getting to know their daughter:
“Labor and delivery wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought. The contractions at first weren’t too bad and then, towards the end, before I got the epidural, they got pretty bad. I am not sure why anyone in their right mind would even think about NOT having an epidural. After I got the epidural, it was smooth sailing from then on.”
“Brian was changing her the other night, and her tush was up against his stomach, and she let out a big fart with a poop along with it. It made Brian and I laugh so hard, I peed on myself.”
Yes, that second excerpt is a bit indelicate, but you can tell they’re happy and having fun with Emme. The best part? I get to buy little baby girl stuff, and spoil her like crazy! I’ve been going through CornerStorkBabyGifts.com, looking at every one of their hundreds of gifts. I think I’m going to start with the “Love Ewe” Plush Lamb and Lovie Baby Gift Set (sooo cute!) and the “Girls Got Game” Jenny’s High-Top Socks–six pairs of tiny socks that look like sneakers. I want to make sure Emme knows girls can do anything!
