One of the best things about Thanksgiving is the amazing, home-cooked meal we all sit down to enjoy. Now, thanks to some recipes I found online at iParenting, your babies don’t have to miss out the pleasures of those traditional, homemade delights on their very first Thanksgiving. Put away that jar of Turkey with Rice baby food and let your baby experience one of the great joys in life! All it takes is love and a little bit of effort to give your little love one of the best baby gifts ever! The recipes are intended for babies older than 6 months. For younger babies who are just starting solid foods, use your expressed milk or formula instead of water to make the food taste more familiar.

Turkey-Cranberry Treat
Ingredients: 1 slice cooked turkey; ¼ cup canned cranberry sauce; water
Directions: Place turkey in a blender or food processor. Blend with water, one tablespoon at a time until it’s a smooth liquid. Blend in cranberry sauce to desired consistency. More cranberry sauce may be needed to make it thicker than a puree for older babies.

Applesauce-Squash Surprise
Ingredients: 2 small acorn squash; 2 tablespoons applesauce; ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
Directions: Cut each squash into halves and scoop out the seeds. Divide the applesauce and cinnamon among the four halves and cover with aluminum foil. Place in baking dish and bake at 375° F for one hour or until tender. Remove foil and let squash cool. Scrape the insides of the squash and puree in a blender or food processor.

Baby Pilgrim’s Potatoes
Ingredients: 1 potato; expressed breast milk, formula or water
Directions: Cut potato into four pieces. Boil for 15 minutes or until soft. Place soft potato in blender or food processor. Add 1 tablespoon of fluid at a time until you have a smooth puree.

“Little Sweetie” Sweet Potatoes
Ingredients: 1 small sweet potato; water
Directions: Slice sweet potato into 1-inch thick slices. Over boiling water, steam for 10 minutes or until soft. You should easily be able to stick a fork through one slice. Add warm sweet potato to blender or food processor along with 1 tablespoon of water. Add 1 tablespoon at a time until you have a smooth puree of sweet potatoes.

Happy Thanksgiving!
