As you browsed through our terrific toys and books, did you notice how far the "rocking horse" has come? Believe it or not, the origin of the rocking horse goes as far back as ancient Greece and Egypt around 400 B.C., when parents placed crude toy horses on wheels for their children. In medieval times, parents put a fake horse head at the end of a long stick, and the hobby horse (or broomstick horse) was born. The first true rocking horses with semi-circular bases were created in the seventeenth century, and have they ever evolved! Now your little ones can rock on lovable, colorful characters. To keep children safe on a rocking horse (or other rocking character,) supervise them as they get on and off the horse. The rocker should have handle bars and be steady enough to handle your child's weight rocking back and forth. Place the rocker on a carpeted area away from other object. Don't let them rock at high speeds, because of the potential to tip over-and lift your children gently up when they fall asleep to the wonderful rocking motion of their soothing friend.
